Feeling Like a Failure

Recently, I haven’t been in the right headspace. This led to a lot of mistakes in everything that I do:

  • My boss told me that I’m not producing enough work in my full-time job.

  • It took me 7 rounds of revisions to land a logo for my branding client (when I usually just do one.)

  • Another content client complained that the article doesn’t make any sense.

3 strikes later, I felt like a total failure.

From being a straight-A student, to constantly getting recognized at Gensler, to now failing at my marketing job…

My confidence level has dropped ever since I made a career transition. Not that I’m doubting my decision—it was absolutely the right choice for me, but am I confident that I can do this role?

You see, I was confident that I could be an architect.

I had my license, I was managing a team, and I knew what to do and where to look for information to tackle most situations.

But now I’m constantly second-guessing myself. I feel like a junior again without the right educational background and professional experience.

Plus getting laid off after working at a company and a job that I absolutely loved.

Plus dealing with some other issues in my personal life.

Everything adding up together has drastically affected my work.

My confidence has tanked. My mental health has tanked. My productivity has tanked.

I started making silly mistakes, missing deadlines at work, taking way too long to respond back to my clients…

And the cycle continues.

I don’t have a solution for you today, or any actionable steps to help you feel better.

Because I don’t think it's honest to write an email about 5 steps to stop feeling like a failure when I’m still going through this myself.

Most people try to sell you the solution after they have gone through the situation. But I want to tell you how I feel right at the moment.

And gosh, it doesn’t feel good.

But I want you to know that we all feel like this from time to time.

Feeling like a failure doesn’t mean you’re actually a failure.

If you’re struggling with lack of confidence, self-doubts, imposter syndrome, feeling like an absolute failure, and making tons of mistakes along the way (like I’ve been the past couple of months)...

Just know that you’re not alone, and I’m here alongside you.

Always be here for you,

Joann

P.S. For those of you who have checked on me to see how I’m doing because of my social media silence, thank you. I really appreciate that you care about me, a random internet stranger that shares too much about personal feelings.

P.P.S. While I’m dwelling in my existential crisis, feel free to check out others who are sharing amazing tips about marketing and business.
